Hi all...
So, we don't drive & get around the best we know how..
As i don't have family here to give me a lift to the store, dr appts, meeting etc...i of course take my son everywhere with me. So we take a carseat that faces forward. Its such a hassel though. We started using Metro Access here in Austin (you schedule rides & they come & pick you up about an hour or 2 of your scheduled ride)...& so i have to take this carseat with us. Same with taxis or if a friend came by. But its alot to do with the child, the seat & if you have other things with you. I used to take a stroller a few blocks down just to go to HEB or the shopping center thats across the HEB. Now that its so hot i just take the city bus, metro & sometimes a taxi

Im wondering how do yall get around with transportation? Is there some other way or something? Anyone else dealing with this?

When I'm by myself, I use a sling to carry my little girl everywhere until a couple of months ago. Now that she walks very well, We usually stroll together if it's a short distance. I also recently allow her to ride her tricycle to the park. That ways, she gets some exercise in, I too benefit from this, as it usually means a brisk walk for me to keep up with her.

For public transportation, I have a backpack like carrier. I do have a car
seat at home so that when we go somewhere in a car, it can be easily strap down.

Hope this help

Great idea! I've heard the baby sling can really help especially if you're using a cane. you can get a sling that faces forward so that the baby can look at the world or you can get one where the baby is closer to your chest.

Also, you can use a stroller with good back wheels. Pull it instead of push it, and tip it back on its back wheels. Works like a champ. You just want to take the curb cuts up and down unless your little one is particularly adventurous and likes the bumps.

My son will be 17mths in a week..he weighs 22 1/2ibs..im lookin for ideas suggestion when travelin in a car..is there anythin beside a carseat (that faces forward)??? is it the only way jus to use a carseat?? i dont have a trouble gettin around with a stroller & i think a sling is too small for him.

Well if you're riding in a car, the child does need to be strapped into a carseat. And apparently he is old enough to sit in one that faces forward. As for getting around any other way such as walking, a stroller might work, but personally I think a sling might be easier until he is able to walk. But if you have to travel in a car, you pretty much do need the carseat for him.

Get a Sit 'n Stroll off EBAY. It's a carseat that has wheels that pop in and out. You can pull it behind you as you walk & when it's time to get in the car, just pop the wheels in & it's a front or back facing car seat. Then when you're at your destination, get the seat out of the car with or without child still in it & pop the wheels back out & it's a low-to-the-ground stroller. You can get carrying bags & protective coverings for them too for the rain & sun. They run about 250 to 300 so I recommend eBay. We got ours for $47 & that included shipping. It came like-new & is a joy for my husband to take our daughter places. I cannot use it, as it throws my balance off to pull it, but that's because I have CP. Good luck.

A. while it is required to put a child in a car seat or booster seat as is age and size appropriate in personal cars, in a taxi cab, you may hold your child, buckle them in or wear them in a carrier, same goes for para transit or city busses. You do not need a carseat in a cab. B. Is it safer? Yes, and so if you can find a feezable way to use one, that is best, but if it's going to seriously limit your mobility, as in when a toddler still technically needs a booster and no longer fits in a sit and strole, then it's better to forget the booster than to be stuck. I highly recommend if traveling on a bus or in a cab without a car seat to use a good, high quality, strong, well fitted carrier like a mei tie, a wrap or a structured soft carrier. Hope that helps.

I travil the same way and I know that it is not so much fun taking that carseet any where.
It is a pain in the rear.
when I go on trips and have to deal with that issue.
Do you have a leach for you child that is a puppy or a monkey?
What kind of stroller do you have for you child?
Please email me your answers at babybuffalovanessuevega@gmail.com cause I check it more often than the zone messages cause daughter is very need at this time cause her teeth are growing.

That's a great idea Sunshine! I'm going to seriously have to look into that. As for my own contributions, I haven't experience carying a child in public yet, however that will change soon. Personally I' a big supporter of the sling or other carriers. I've carried heavy backpacks all my life. If you've got the strength to cary babies around, it would really help. I see people using stuff like that all the time.

Hey, TBG, is your wife expecting? If so, I am jealous; if not... well, good luck :)

Sometime soon, Musician, thanks for asking.

There's also a device called the Snap and Go. It's a frame you can get for around $50 which you can just snap a car seat into. it essentially acts as a stroller.

I have been using the sit & stroll for a lil over 8months now & i love it! Everytime i take transit to appts the driver asks me where i got it from lol. I actually got it at a place called Pumpkin Patch; where they have gently used baby, toddler & kids stuff. I only paid like $50 for it:) But now im looking for other options, mayb a double stroller. I love slings by the way :)
